iPhone 5G(Features)

Posted by ADMIN On 8:55 AM 0 comments
iPhone 5 is just around the corner, it must be out in about two months but we have not too many rumors or leaks yet. May be people are scared of what happened to Gizmodo but we have a nifty list of features that we expect to be included in iPhone 5. Though Apple won’t enhance iOS drastically as we wish but there might be significant changes to the overall product design and software. Here is a list of the features which the world is expecting iPhone 5 to have. Please note that this is not our opinion, listing these features here is because of several clues we keep getting from different sources.

 1.Additional Multi touch Gestures

 iOS 4.3 GM brought new multi touch gestures that included the use of 4 or 5 fingers to do several things.    Like a 5 finger pinch on any app would take you to the home screen and a four finger left or right swipe would switch between the running apps. These gestures have not been released to the masses in iOS 4.3′s final release and are being tested extensively so it is very obvious that they will be coming out with iOS 5.0

Apple Looking At 3D Camera In Future Gen iPhones

Probably doesn’t come as much a surprise that Apple are looking at 3D technology, ever one seems to be doing it at the moment. According to AppleInsider Apple have filed for a patent that would involve taking multiple pictures and then meshing them together to make a 3 dimensional image.

Many companies are jumping onto the 3D bandwagon, we have the HTC Evo which has a pair of cameras on the back which allow it to record 3D videos.

This patent indicates that the technology would allow the iPhone to shoot 3D still images and record high def 3D video.

One would assume that if Apple were to include 3D technology in their camera, that they would add in a 3D screen, but I’m not quite sure how that would work.

iPhone 5 Not Starting Production Until September
According to a recent report from yet another analyst, the iPhone 5 will not go into production until September as previously rumored. Business Insider reports that an analyst has said that the iPhone 5 won’t start production until September, let alone go on sale then.

They reckon that the iPhone 5 won’t make it to the market until the end of 2011, or we could even be looking at an early 2012 release.
As I’m sure any of you who would regularly follow these iPhone rumors will know by now, that these rumors can be very conflicting at times, often jumping from one extreme to the other. A lot of them can be taken with a pinch of salt but this is consistent with other reports from analysts and supply chains claiming that Apple hasn’t even placed orders yet for parts.

8 Megapixel Camera from Sony in iPhone 5

9to5 Mac conducted an interview with Sony CEO  Howard Stringer at Carnegie Hall in New York City as part of the JapanNYC festival. It would appear that Stringer accidentally let slip that Sony will be in fact supplying the camera’s for the iPhone 5.

He said that due to the tsunami in Japan there factory was delayed in providing its shipments of camera sensors to Apple.
Do you want to block a certain websites to prevent your kids from access to these sites?, or you want to block it because it has virus, Trojan or malware?, whatever the reason you want to block this site.

Of course there are many software that allow you to block some websites, but what if you wanted just to block one or two websites? installing software takes memory disks pace and CPU power making your computer more slower.

Instead of installing any additional software there is trick you can use to block and redirect certain website to other safe websites, in windows there is file called the Hosts files which is used to control mapping networks names

The hosts file is located in "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc" we are going to edit it to block certain websites

Display Most Recent Tweet in WordPress

Posted by ADMIN On 5:10 AM 0 comments
Twitter is getting very famous among bloggers. Many bloggers are now displaying their most recent tweet on their blog. If you want to display your most recent tweet on your blog simply place this code where you want to display it in your WordPress theme.

    <?php
    $username = "TwitterUsername"; // Your twitter username.
    $prefix = ""; // Prefix – some text you want displayed before your latest tweet.
    $suffix = ""; // Suffix – some text you want display after your latest tweet.
    $feed = "http://search.twitter.com/search.atom?q=from:" . $username . "&rpp=1";

    function parse_feed($feed) {
    $stepOne = explode("<content type=\"html\">", $feed);
    $stepTwo = explode("</content>", $stepOne[1]);
    $tweet = $stepTwo[0];
    $tweet = str_replace("&lt;", "<", $tweet);
    $tweet = str_replace("&gt;", ">", $tweet);
    return $tweet;
    }
Many Blogs are now having guest posts on their site. Some of these guest authors are one-time only authors, so there is no point in creating a separate profile for them just so you can display their name in the post. The smarter way to do this is by using the following code.

Open you single.php, or page.php in your template and add the following code where you display the author name:

    <?php $author = get_post_meta($post->ID, "guest-author", true);
    if ($author != "") {
    echo $author;
    } else {
    the_author();
    } ?>
Have you seen sites that display most recent comments in their sidebar with user gravatars. Well this can be done easily with these codes. Simply paste the following code anywhere you want to display the most recent comments.

    <?php
    $query = "SELECT * from $wpdb->comments WHERE comment_approved= '1'
    ORDER BY comment_date DESC LIMIT 0 ,5";
    $comments = $wpdb->get_results($query);

    if ($comments) {
    echo '<ul>';
    foreach ($comments as $comment) {
    $url = '<a href="'. get_permalink($comment->comment_post_ID).'#comment-'.$comment->comment_ID .'" title="'.$comment->comment_author .' | '.get_the_title($comment->comment_post_ID).'">';
    echo '<li>';
    echo '<div class="img">';
    echo $url;
    echo get_avatar( $comment->comment_author_email, $img_w);
    echo '</a></div>';
WordPress has fields for fields for author contacts, but it has not been updated in ages. So by default you do not have an ability to add author’s twitter or facebook. With this hack you can add this information on their profile page.

First open your functions.php and paste the following code:

    <?php
    function my_new_contactmethods( $contactmethods ) {
    // Add Twitter
    $contactmethods['twitter'] = 'Twitter';
    //add Facebook
    $contactmethods['facebook'] = 'Facebook';

    return $contactmethods;
    }
    add_filter('user_contactmethods','my_new_contactmethods',10,1);
    ?>

Modify Excerpt Length and More Tags

Posted by ADMIN On 4:59 AM 0 comments
WordPress lets you display Excerpts, but up until version 2.9 you could not control the excerpt length. With the following code, you can increase the length from default 55 words to as many words as you like. Open your functions.php file and add the follwowing codes in there:

    // Changing excerpt length
    function new_excerpt_length($length) {
    return 100;
    }
    add_filter('excerpt_length', 'new_excerpt_length');
Did you see sites with a magazine style theme who are displaying posts from a specific category. Sometimes only the most recent post. Well you can do this too easily.

    <?php
    query_posts('showposts=1&cat=3');
    while(have_posts()) : the_post();
    ?>
    <ul>
    <li><h3><a href="<?php the_permalink() ?>" rel="bookmark"><?php the_title(); ?></a></h3>

    <ul><li><?php the_content(); ?></li>
    </ul>
    </li>
    </ul>
    <?php endwhile; ?>
Assuming that you have already created a custom page template and/or already have The Loop ready, paste the following code before the loop.

    <?php
    /* Get all sticky posts */
    $sticky = get_option( 'sticky_posts' );

    /* Sort the stickies with the newest ones at the top */
    rsort( $sticky );

    /* Get the 5 newest stickies (change 5 for a different number) */
    $sticky = array_slice( $sticky, 0, 5 );

    /* Query sticky posts */
    query_posts( array( 'post__in' => $sticky, 'caller_get_posts' => 1 ) );
    ?>

This hack comes becomes very useful when you are running a contest because you might
be posting information such as clues or hints that you don’t want to stay up for ever.
of manually removing the article, you can just make it expire automatically. It also works
if you have a product that you are offering a discount on. You posted it on your blog,
but you don’t want that discount to stay on your blog after its over. So you can remove it
automatically with this code.

All you need to do is replace your WordPress Loop with this code:

<?php
    if (have_posts()) :
    while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
    $expirationtime = get_post_custom_values('expiration');
    if (is_array($expirationtime)) {
    $expirestring = implode($expirationtime);
    }
Most blog designs get boring if they have a huge header picture and it is static.
This is when this tutorial comes in to make your header images dynamic because
it rotates on each visit. You can select as many images as you want to rotate
randomly. It brings life to a blog.

First you need to name your images in this format:

    * headerimage_1.gif
    * headerimage_2.gif
    * headerimage_3.gif

Display Twitter Follower Count as Text

Posted by ADMIN On 4:38 AM 0 comments
There are users who absolutely hate buttons like Feedburner buttons or Twittercounter buttons. Are you one of them? Do you want to display your twitter count as text, so it blends in to your new custom design? Well then this hack is just for you.

First you would need to create a file twitter.php and paste the following code in there:

    <?php
    $tw = get_option("twitterfollowerscount");
    if ($tw['lastcheck'] < ( mktime() – 3600 ) )
    {
    $xml=file_get_contents('http://twitter.com/users/show.xml?screen_name=wpbeginner');
    if (preg_match('/followers_count>(.*)</',$xml,$match)!=0) {
Have you ever been to a site that is not using Feedburner button and is still showing subscriber count?
Well they are probably using the trick we are about to share. Most designers use this trick to have
custom styling and avoid the annoying feedburner button.

Simply copy and paste this code anywhere you like most likely sidebar.php

    <?php
    //get cool feedburner count
    $whaturl="http://api.feedburner.com/awareness/1.0/GetFeedData?uri=your feedburner id";

    //Initialize the Curl session
    $ch = curl_init();

    //Set curl to return the data instead of printing it to the browser.
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1);

    //Set the URL
    curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_URL, $whaturl);

    //Execute the fetch
    $data = curl_exec($ch);

    //Close the connection

Display any Number of Posts in a Loop

Posted by ADMIN On 4:32 AM 0 comments
Did you ever want to display a different number of posts on different pages. For example
on your category pages, you want to display 10 posts which you can control from your
Admin panel, but another page you want to show only 5 posts. Well this tutorial is just for you.

Open a Template file where you want to display an x number of recent posts:

    // if everything is in place and ready, let’s start the loop

    // to display ‘n’ number of posts, we need to execute the loop ‘n’ number of times
    // so we define a numerical variable called ‘$count’ and set its value to zero
    // with each iteration of the loop, the value of ‘$count’ will increase by one
    // after the value of ‘$count’ reaches the specified number, the loop will stop
    // *USER: change the ‘n’ to the number of posts that you would like to display
Have you seen other bloggers who display their other blog’s feed on their site.
You want to do it too for extra promotion and traffic. Well here is the tutorial for you.
Simply paste the following code in anywhere in your theme:

    <?php include_once(ABSPATH.WPINC.'/feed.php');
    $rss = fetch_feed('http://feeds.feedburner.com/wpbeginner');
    $maxitems = $rss->get_item_quantity(5);
    $rss_items = $rss->get_items(0, $maxitems);
    ?>
    <ul>
    <?php if ($maxitems == 0) echo '<li>No items.</li>';
    else
    // Loop through each feed item and display each item as a hyperlink.
    foreach ( $rss_items as $item ) : ?>
    <li>
Have you ever been to a site and saw this cool feature? They have a link in their top
navigation to something like Stumbe! or Read Random Articles, or some other creative text.
When you click on that link, it takes you to a page that displays one random page. Each time
you refresh, you are delivered with a new post. Well this trick is just for you then.

You would need to follow the trick #1 in this article to create a custom page template.
And simply paste this code in there....

If you want to center (or align left or align right) the post title, sign into Dashboard > DESIGN > EDIT HTML to open the template editor and search for .post h3 (use ctrl+F) or code that may look something like those below (code below for Minima template, yours may be slightly different):

Reminder: Always backup template and backup gadgets before editing the template.

.post h3 {
margin:.25em 0 0;
padding:0 0 4px;
font-size:140%;
font-weight:normal;
line-height:1.4em;
color:$titlecolor;
}

The just add this line text-align:center;

.post h3 {
text-align:center;
margin:.25em 0 0;
padding:0 0 4px;
font-size:140%;
font-weight:normal;
line-height:1.4em;
color:$titlecolor;
}

preview and if OK, save template.

If you want to align the post title to the left or to the right, just substitute text-align:center; with either text-align:left; or text-align:right;
1.Log in to your dashboard--> layout
2.Click on "Add a Gadget".Pop-up window will open.Now select "HTML/Java Script"
3.Copy below code and Paste it into it.

How To Use Virtual Hard Disk Files?...

Posted by ADMIN On 3:49 AM 0 comments

You can now create and manage virtual hard disks files in Windows 7 as if they were real disks. This can allow you to use a live Windows installation on the virtual disk without the need to boot the virtual Computer. To create a virtual disk you have to press the Windows Key, right-click on Computer, then go to Manage -> Disk Management -> Action -> Create VHD. There you can specify the location and size of your virtual hard disk file.

To attach the virtual disk file, press the Windows Key, right-click Computer, then go to Manage -> Disk Management -> Action -> Attach VHD and you have to specify the location and if it’s read only or not.

To initialize a virtual hard disk, press the Windows Key, right-click on Computer, go to Manage -> Disk Management -> Action -> Attach VHD, specify the location, click Ok, then right click on the virtual disk and click on Initialize Disk. Select the partition style you want to use and then right-click on the unallocated space and click “New Simple Volume” and follow the instructions wizard. Now, a new hard drive appears in Windows Explorer and you can use it as a real partition.

Free up disk space

The Disk Cleanup tool helps you to free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.

Use Disk Cleanup to:

    *Remove temporary Internet files.
    * Delete downloaded program files, such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets.
    * Empty the Recycle Bin.
    * Remove Windows temporary files, such as error reports.
    * Delete optional Windows components that you don't use.
    *Delete installed programs that you no longer use.
    * Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.

Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.

Speed up access to data

Disk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk as a file is opened (to piece it back together). The response time can be significantly longer.

Disk Defragmenter (sometimes shortened to Defrag by users) is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end to end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.

When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals (weekly is optimal), there are other times you should run it, too, such as when:

    *You add a large number of files.
    *Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
    *You install new programs or a new version of the Windows operating system.

Click the Start Button
Find the Disk Defragmentation program and open it.
         1. Click the Programs icon
         2. Click the Accessories icon
         3. Click the System Tools icon
         4. Click the Disk Defragmentation icon

Detect and repair disk errors

In addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.

As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced.

If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

Remove spyware, and help protect your computer from viruses...

Spyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission. From the websites you visit to user names and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. To combat spyware, you might want to consider using the PC safety scan from Windows Live OneCare. This scan is a free service that helps check for and remove viruses.

Download Microsoft Security Essentials for free to help guard your system in the future from viruses, spyware, adware, and other malicious software (also known as malware). Microsoft Security Essentials acts as a spyware removal tool and includes automatic updates to help keep your system protected from emerging threats.

The Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool is another utility that checks computers running Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows Server 2003 for infections by specific, prevalent malicious software, including Blaster, Sasser, and Mydoom, and helps remove any infection found.

iphone 5 news(Latest)

iPhone 5 (or the iPhone 5G, as some are calling it) rumours are flying thick and fast already.

Will there be a rush release to erase memories of the iPhone 4's antenna problems? Maybe not - with the Verizon iPhone 4 Apple showed it wasn't afraid to tweak the current iPhone design.

Will the 5th generation iPhone deliver ultra-fast mobile internet? Will it ever end up on Verizon in the US?

Let's raid the iPhone 5 rumour fridge to find the tomatoes of truth amid the stinky stilton of baseless speculation.

iPhone 5 release date will be in the summer…

UPDATE: The Apple Worldwide Developers' Conference 2011 date has been announced as 6 June 2011, so it's possible we'll see the iPhone 5 break cover there. However, Jim Dalrymple at The Loop says that this year's WWDC will be about software, not hardware, with Apple focussing on iOS and Mac OS.

Apple's established a rhythm with iPhone releases, with new models appearing in late June or early July each year. It's a safe bet that the iPhone 5 release date (UK and US) will also be late June or early July.

As Beatweek magazine points out, Apple's A-Team can't be everywhere at once; by staggering the releases of the iPad 2 and the iPhone 5, they get to work their magic on both devices.

1. on the desktop right click on internet explorer icon

2. the goto properties

3. on the main "General" tab under "Temporary Internet Files" click "Settings"

4. now on the tab that should popup you will see a bar click on the bar and drag it to your right that will increase your cashe of internet browser (in a box to the right you will also see the numbers increase or decrease as you move the bar).
In Windows Vista

1. Click Start button Picture of the Start button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Choose System and Maintenance and then click System.
4. In the left pane, click Advanced system settings.
5.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
6. Click the Advanced tab, and then, under Virtual memory, choose Change.
7. Click Custom to change the Initial size (MB) and Maximum size. See the hot tip in windows xp

Remember to choose the drive you would like to use to increase the virtual memory. In most cases it usually your C: Drive. You can set the initial size and maximum size after clicking the Custom size check box.Remember its better to keep the Virtual memory values the same.

Also having enough available space is absolutely necessary for your virtual memory and RAM to function properly.
In Windows XP

1.Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
2.Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
3.On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
4.On the Advanced tab, under Virtual memory, click Change.
5.Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file that you want to change.
6.Under Paging file size for selected drive, click to Custom size check box. You can enter the amount of memory you would like to reserve for Virtual memory by entering the initial and maximum size.
7.Click Set
When you are prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.
Special Note: You should choose the same amount for the initial size and maximum size. This will Stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file.

HOT TIP: To stop your CPU from constantly changing the paging file, set the initial and maximum size to the same value. For example, 500 and 500. The value should be at least 1.5 times more than your physical RAM. If your computer has 512MB of RAM increase the virtual memory paging file to 1.5*512= 768
System software: is an essential part of computer operations. The function of the systems software is to manage the resources of the computer, automate its operation and facilitate program development. It is generally provided by the computer manufacturer or a specialized programming firm (for example: Microsoft is a company that specializes in system software).

Application software: are designed to perform specific data processing or computational tasks for the user. These programs are specifically designed to meet end-user requirements. (e.g: spreadsheets, word processors, media players and database applications).

Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 are the forth and fifth generation smartphones from Apple, (iPhone 5 is not released yet). Everyone would be interested to know the difference between Apple iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. Apple iPhone 4 created a hype in the hand phone market when it was introduced in 2010. Again Apple’s announcement of its 3G CDMA iPhone 4 brought a change to the technology media that was occupied during the 1st week of January 2011 with Android....
iphone
Wi-Fi is faster ( as long as you have fast internet) because it is a direct wireless signal straight from your internet connection via a wireless router.

3G is the cell phone companies' internet connection, slower than wi-fi, but still fast for mobile internet.

People nowadays prefer both so they can switch between them if they want faster internet at home. Wi-fi uses less battery of the phone but has the limited range of however far it reaches (which is usually about your whole house). Hope this helps you a bit.
RAM (Random Access Memory): RAM is a part of computer hardware which stores the operating system application programs and data or currently running processes kept so that they can quickly reach to the computer's process. The RAM is specially designed for the communication with processor as compared to the other storage devices like hard disk etc. because of its capability of fast data transfer. The data in the RAM stays there as long as your computer is on, and when the computer gets shutdown all the data from the RAM is wiped. The RAM can have different forms e.g. it can be in the form of a module which is to be plugged into the motherboard or it can also be in the form of a discrete microchips which are normally of 256 MB 512 MB.And most of the computers are designed which allows user to add these modules up to certain capacity.

ROM (Read Only Memory):-In addition to RAM there is another type of memory present in the computer which is called the ROM the other form of read only memory is CD-Rom storage, Floppy Disk every computer has a small capacity of ROM that holds enough programming which can load the operating system to the RAM.

What is winmount?

Posted by ADMIN On 5:38 AM 0 comments
WinMount can mount ZIP, RAR,7Z,WIM or ISO file to a new virtual drive so that you can use those files inside directly. You donot need to extract them first. This save your time and disk space. WinMount supports of mounting ZIP, RAR, 7-zip,Wim, ISO, CUE/BIN, MDS/ MDF, CCD, BWT, IMG, NRG, and ISZ formats.You can also create a disk image file and mount it to a new drive. You can choose if write data back to disk image file or not. This keeps your computer away from virus.For instance, you can mount a ZIP file ,say c:1.zip to a newly created virtual drive. After you execute the corresponding command(File-Mount-Mount Files) in the menu, your operating system will immediately notify you that a new device has been found, and a drive letter say H: will be assigned to it. when the mounting process is finished, you can find all the original files inside that zip file under H:.And WinMount supports packing files ,Enjoy !

Difference between Wimax and Wi-fi

Posted by ADMIN On 5:28 AM 0 comments
1. WiMax has the capability of covering wider areas than WiFi. While WiFi is a Wireless LAN networking technology, it can only reach a few hundred meters in the open air, WiMax is designed to be a MAN wireless internet access technology, it can cover an area of some 50 miles in diameter.
2. WiMax provides a higher speed wireless internet access. Wimax can be running at a speed up to 70M, three times as fast as 3G networks.
3. WiMax provides the last mile of internet access; it can connect WiFi hotspots to the Internet. And provide a wireless alternative to cables and DSL.
4. WiMax provides multi-media and telecommunications services, it is securer and can be upgraded.
5. Wi-fi stands for (Wireless fidilety).
RAM
SD, DDR, DDR2 and DDR3 are all different types of RAM (Random Access Memory). RAM is a kind of computer memory that temporarily stores information, improving your systems performance. Or in other words RAM simply holds data for the processor. The processor also has its own memory known as the L2 cache, the cache lies between the processor and the RAM. The processor sends and retrieves data from this cache, when this cache overflows data is sent to the RAM.
SD RAM:

SDRAM stands for synchronous dynamic random access memory. SDRAM is Single Data Rate meaning that SDRAM can accept one command and transfer one word of data per clock cycle. As mentioned above SDRAM's have synchronous interface therefore they depend on the computer clock signals to perform operations. Typical speeds of SDRAM are 100 and 133 MHz.

DDR SDRAM:

DDR SDRAM stands for double data rate synchronous dynamic random access memory. DDR RAM transfers data twice per clock cycle, hence the name double data rate. DDR clock speeds range between 200 MHz (DDR-200) and 400 MHz (DDR-400). DDR-200 transfers 1600 MB/s, while DDR-400 transfers 3200 MB/s.

PC Safeguard

Posted by ADMIN On 1:40 AM 0 comments
I rarely let anyone use my PC because I’m afraid he will mess it up, but it seems Microsoft has been thinking at me and came with a solution. The PC Safeguard doesn’t let anyone mess your PC settings, because after the user logs off, the configurations are reset back to normal. Of course it will not restore the configurations changed by you, but only the ones done by other users you define.

To use PC Safeguard, go to Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a new account, then select “Set Up Pc Safeguard” and switch it on. Then you can stay relaxed when others use your computer, because you won’t find anything changed, including configurations, downloaded software, installed programs.

Advanced Disk Defragmentation

Posted by ADMIN On 1:39 AM 0 comments
Fortunately, Windows 7 offers much better defragmentation than Vista and also lets you configure it a bit from the command line.

To do it, press the Windows Key and then type “CMD”.

You can defragment your hard disk from the command line by typing “defrag” and you have the following options: “/r” will defrag multiple drives simultaneously, “-a” performs a defrag analysis, “-v” prints the report, “-r” treats files with at least 64 Mb of fragments like are not fragmented, “-w” will defrag everything. An example is “defrag C: -v -w” to defrag the whole drive C.

How to Disable hibernation

Posted by ADMIN On 1:32 AM 0 comments
By default Windows 7 will permanently consume a chunk of your hard drive with its hibernation file, but if you never use sleep, and always turn your PC off, then this will never actually be used. To disable hibernation and recover a little hard drive space, launch REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power, then set both HibernateEnabled and HiberFileSizePerfect to zero.

Remove taskbar buttons

Posted by ADMIN On 1:27 AM 0 comments
One problem with the previous tip is the buttons will gobble up valuable taskbar real estate, but you can reduce the impact of this by removing their text captions. Launch REGEDIT, browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics, add a string called MinWidth, set it to 54, and reboot to see the results.

Enjoy a retro taskbar

Posted by ADMIN On 1:26 AM 0 comments
Windows 7 now combines taskbar buttons in a way that saves space, but also makes it more difficult to tell at a glance whether an icon represents a running application or a shortcut. If you prefer a more traditional approach, then right-click the taskbar, select Properties, and set Taskbar Buttons to "Combine when taskbar is full". You'll now get a clear and separate button for each running application, making them much easier to identify.

Recover screen space

Posted by ADMIN On 1:26 AM 0 comments
The new Windows 7 taskbar acts as one big quick launch toolbar that can hold whatever program shortcuts you like (just right-click one and select Pin To Taskbar). And that's fine, except it does consume a little more screen real estate than we'd like. Shrink it to a more manageable size by right-clicking the Start orb, then Properties > Taskbar > Use small icons > OK.

Create and mount VHD files

Posted by ADMIN On 1:20 AM 0 comments
Microsoft's Virtual PC creates its virtual machine hard drives in VHD files, and Windows 7 can now mount these directly so you can access them in the host system. Click Start, type diskmgmt.msc and press Enter, then click Action > Attach VHD and choose the file you'd like to mount. It will then appear as a virtual drive in Explorer and can be accessed, copied or written just like any other drive.

Click Action > Create VHD and you can now create a new virtual drive of your own (right-click it, select Initialise Disk, and after it's set up right-click the unallocated space and select New Simple Volume to set this up). Again, you'll be left with a virtual drive that behaves just like any other, where you can drag and drop files, install programs, test partitioning software or do whatever you like. But it's actually just this VHD file on your real hard drive which you can easily back up or share with others. Right-click the disk (that's the left-hand label that says "Disk 2" or whatever) and select Detach VHD to remove it.

The command line DISKPART utility has also been upgraded with tools to detach a VHD file, and an EXPAND command to increase a virtual disk's maximum size. Don't play around with this unless you know what you're doing, though - it's all too easy to trash your system.

Set the time zone in Windows 7

Posted by ADMIN On 1:18 AM 0 comments
System administrators will appreciate the new command line tzutil.exe utility, which lets you set a PC's time zone from scripts. If you wanted to set a PC to Greenwich Mean Time, for instance, you'd use the command

tzutil /s "gmt standard time"

The command "tzutil /g" displays the current time zone, "tzutil /l" lists all possible time zones, and "tzutil /?" displays details on how the command works.
